Divisions
The Department of Medicine is organized into 16 Divisions, encompassing all aspects of internal medicine and its subspecialties. Click on a link below to view detailed information on a specific Division.
Addiction Medicine
The Interdepartmental Division of Addiction Medicine consists of sixteen members who are actively involved in providing patient care services at St. Paul's Hospital.
AIDS
From its inception in 2007, the Division of AIDS has worked collaboratively with the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (BC-CfE) (est. 1992) and the AIDS Research Program at St. Paul’s Hospital/UBC (est. 1988).
Allergy and Immunology
The Allergy and Immunology Division consists of five members who are actively involved in providing clinical consultative services at St. Paul's Hospital and in the community. Additionally, Members provide outreach clinics in several communities around British Columbia including Dease Lake, Stewart, Hazelton, Bella Bella, Campbell River, Parksville, Bamfield, Prince George and Sechelt.
Cardiology
The Division of Cardiology at St. Paul's Hospital, within the Heart Center organization, constitutes the majority of the faculty for British Columbia's premier tertiary and only quaternary cardiac program.
Critical Care
The Division of Critical Care Medicine consists of eleven members who are actively involved in providing patient care services in the Intensive Care Unit at St. Paul's Hospital and Mount St. Joseph's Hospital.
Dermatology
Our Division of Dermatology provides coverage for urgent inpatient and outpatient dermatology issues and emergencies at St. Paul's Hospital, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and cross-coverage of Vancouver Acute weekdays and evenings.
Endocrinology
The Division of Endocrinology at St. Paul's Hospital provides consulting services to the hospital and is also involved in a number of specialized, multidisciplinary outpatient clinics, including the Diabetes Clinic, the Lipid Clinic, and the recently established Thyroid Clinic.
Gastroenterology
The Gastroenterology Division at St. Paul's hospital has a strong clinical base, is involved in clinical research, and plays a role in undergraduate, post-graduate, and fellowship training. Division members are active provincially and nationally.
General Internal Medicine
The Division of General Internal Medicine is comprised of 30 faculty, many of whom also participate in activities at Vancouver Acute, BC Women's and Children's hospital, and Lion's Gate hospital.
Geriatric Medicine
The PHC Division of Geriatric Medicine has a wide range of services spanning all of the acute sites within Providence Health Care.
Hematology
The Providence Health Care Division of Hematology comprises a faculty of seven clinicians who are actively involved in the care of patients with a wide spectrum of hematological disease from the province of BC and the Yukon. The faculty provides primary and consultative care for patients in hospital at St. Paul's, and outpatients in a clinic or office setting.
Infectious Diseases
The Division of Infectious Diseases at St. Paul's Hospital is comprised of a faculty of 7 clinicians and clinician scientists who are responsible for the clinical, research, and administrative teaching program of the division.
Nephrology
The Division consists of 13 members with primary appointments at Providence, who have responsibility for the clinical, research, administrative teaching program of the division.
Neurology
The Division of Neurology at St. Paul's Hospital now comprises a faculty of 12 clinicians and clinician scientists including one basic scientist.
Palliative Care
The Interdepartmental Division of Palliative Care consists of eight members who are actively involved in providing patient care services at St. Paul's Hospital
Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
The Division of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation within Providence Health Care is a relatively small division when compared to our larger siblings. We consist of five physiatrists.
Respiratory
The vision of the Respiratory Division is to be a centre of excellence for the provision of compassionate, respectful care to patients with respiratory diseases and their families. We pursue excellence through ethical research and education.
Rheumatology
The Rheumatology Division is comprised of nine community-based rheumatologists with full staff privileges at St. Paul's Hospital as well as clinical appointments with the University of British Columbia. The Division provides emergency and inpatient consultations, specialized clinics and private practice consultation services for the full spectrum of rheumatic and connective tissue disorders.
