Division of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), or physiatry, is a branch of medicine dealing with functional restoration of a person affected by physical disability.
Division of PM&R Core Purpose: To optimize care and function for people and populations experiencing impairments, disabilities, or diseases, while innovating to provide quality clinical care, research and education.
Dr. Evan H. Kwong’s clinical practice includes neuro-rehabilitation (including stroke rehabilitation), spasticity management, electromyography, and the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, including the use of point-of-care interventional ultrasound. At Providence Health Care, he is currently the Medical Site Lead of the Holy Family Hospital Rehabilitation Services, and Division Head of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He sees inpatients at HFH, MSJ, and SPH. He also sees outpatients at the HFH Physiatry Clinic, SPH Elder Care Clinic, and the Post-COVID Recovery Clinic. He holds consulting privileges at Vancouver Coastal Health. His strong interest in collaborative quality improvement has led him to enroll in the Queen’s University PhD program in Health Quality.
Dr. Anita Fan is a Clinical Assistant Professor within the Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Department of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. She has an in-patient practice at the rehabilitation units at Holy Family Hospital. Her in-patient areas of interest are mainly in neuro-rehabilitation. Her out-patient clinics are held at Mount Saint Joseph Hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital and Holy Family Hospital. She evaluates and treats out-patients in a clinic setting whose needs fall within the full spectrum of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She is certified in Electromyography (EMG) from the Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists (CSCN) and she practises Electrodiagnostic Medicine at Holy Family Hospital. Dr Fan is on consulting staff at St. Paul’s Hospital, Mount Saint Joseph Hospital and Vancouver General Hospital. She also visits the long term care facilities within Providence Health Care providing physiatric consultative services.
Dr. Herman Lau's inpatient interest includes chronic pain and rehabilitation of our elders who suffer hip fractures as well as elective hip and knee replacements. He has been a member of the Chronic Pain Service at St. Paul's Hospital since 2000. He is involved with inpatient consultation at HFH, SPH, and MSJ. He is a Clinical Instructor in the UBC Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Dr. Grace Li provides specialized rehabilitation services at Holy Family Hospital/ Providence Health for post-neurologic injury and post- orthopedic trauma rehabilitation. Her other interests include EMG and nerve conduction studies and complex upper extremity. Inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation consultations are provided for patients with neurologic, musculoskeletal, or complex injuries.
Dr. Elliott Weiss provides consultation services within the spectrum of physical medicine and rehabilitation including young adults up to elders. His in-patient areas of interest include neuro-rehabilitation, amputee rehabilitation, and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. He is involved in neuro-electrophysiological studies in the form of EMG and nerve conduction studies. His sub-specialized areas of interest include late effects of polio, lymphedema, multiple sclerosis, complex orthotics, occupational rehabilitation and the delivery of rehabilitation services in an acute setting.

Specialized interdisciplinary rehabilitation program for the older adult. Offers treatment programs for clients with neurological disorders, orthopedic conditions, and arthritis including fibromyalgia. The highly specialized care team consists of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing, social work, speech language pathology, pharmacy, and physiatry. This program serves the Lower Mainland and local community.

Patients must have a doctor referral.
