Early Intervention Memory Clinic (EIMC)

Description

Physician lead: Dr. Philip E. Lee, Division of Geriatrics, Department of Medicine

As the population ages, more and more people are noticing changes in their memory and thinking skills. Some memory changes may be part of getting older, but others are a sign of an emerging neurodegenerative condition that will get worse over time. If we can figure out who’s at the highest risk for progression to dementia and support them to reduce risk factors and optimize healthy lifestyle habits then we can sustain people’s functioning and quality of life and reduce health care utilization.

The Early Intervention Memory Clinic (EIMC) aims to develop an innovative program of education, support, and active interventions for older adults who express concerns about their memory at a far earlier stage than what is currently being addressed. By catching people upstream as early as possible, we may be able to delay onset or progression of cognitive impairment.

More to come.
